If you haven’t registered for the annual 6-Packed Conference being held in Houston, TX March 03 & 04, 2011 there is till time.  Information is available at www.6packed.org.  This local program brings good topics and great speakers within a few hours drive of San Antonio.  The program includes a lean tract that earns attendees a Certificate in Lean Basics, and the potential of a Lean Quality Yellow Belt to attendees that have demonstrated significant improvement to organizational operations and/or improvement to bottom line results through a lean project.
 
In June the San Antonio Chapter will host a District meeting including all the Chapters in our district.  The meeting will be held at the Hilton Palacio on the Riverwalk June 03rd and 04th.  You are welcome to come and participate in various planning events focused on improve customer service and the overall member experience.
 
Our first professional development meeting, on 11 January 2011, was held in conjunction with ASQ and was our annual Top Management Night.  Attendance was good and participants heard Forrest W. Breyfogle speaking on the topic “Improving Project Selection Using a 9-Step Re-invented Business Management System.”  Our next meeting is March 8th.  Look forward to our meeting announcement in the next week or two.
 
We had two people express interest in the volunteer Marketing position we mentioned last month.  We are planning a marketing meeting with the goal of bring you better programs and services.  Look forward to our great new ideas.

Our next professional development meeting, on 11 January 2011, will be held in conjunction with ASQ and will be our Top Management Night.  As in previous years, the meeting will be held at the San Antonio Blood and Tissue Center at 6211 IH-10W.  Topic and speaker are still being confirmed.  Visit our website at www.apicssa.org for updates.  This spring we will also have a meeting on the topic of “The Value of APICS” and will bring all the new programs, certifications, educational offerings, etc. to our members and customers.  This will be a great meeting to send your people to, to learn about the exciting things APICS is doing and have them get excited about operations management and helping you improve the bottom line through APICS education.

We will be offering the APICS Train-the-Trainer (TTT) program in the next few months.  TTT is a two-day, highly interactive course that prepares professionals to teach adult training and development courses.  It provides potential instructors and inexperienced presenters with a successful and workable methodology that can be applied in communicating any subject effectively with tips on communication, effective media use, motivating learners, and meeting-room layout.
 
Oh, did I tell you we’re looking for someone who knows how to spell marketing to volunteer on our Board of Directors?  As with many APICS people, we’re really good at operations management, but we’re not so good at marketing.  Have that skill?  Someone working for you have that skill?  Send them over to help us out.

Your APICS chapter will be on a Professional Development Meeting hiatus until September. We hope to have a new and interesting line-up of meetings for you for the upcoming fiscal year.

In the meantime, your APICS BOD will be busy this summer. We have our annual strategic planning meeting scheduled for August, and Rod Cantu is busy working on programs. Sean Clark is also introducing an updated webpage which should be available this month.

We had another good meeting in February.  Thanks to Mr. Bill Rafferty of  the South Central Region of the Texas Manufacturing Assistance Center (TMAC).   His topic  “Adjusting For Our Environment—Increasing Profitability Through Environmental Responsibility” was very informative.  We also enjoyed a delicious dinner at the Old San Francisco Steak House.  We hope to hold additional meetings there in the future.
Several people from San Antonio attended the APICS Six Packed Conference from February 26-27, 2010 in Dallas.  This conference was presented by our own Terra Grande District and offered many informative sessions.  We are excited to announce that next year’s conference will be held here in San Antonio.  Last week Vern Teichroeb and I also attended the Terra Grande District meeting.  We had good interaction with officers of other chapters in our District and came away with many good ideas and opportunities to help our chapter grow.  The feeling in the district seemed to be that economically things are looking up for our member’s companies.
We’re coming up to Board of Directors election time again.  If you would be interested in serving on our board or knowing more about board positions,  please contact me.  We currently have an opening for a Company Coordinator, and we would be glad to have co-directors for many of our other positions.
Finally, welcome to new and renewing members Donald Lee, Danielle Tumblin, David Craven, Kenneth Dusseau and Michael Tucker.  Thank you for your commitment to APICS.  Please come to our Professional Development meetings and let us get to know you better.
